Announcements / Comments

Question #104 for conversation: How do you connect your equipment to DC power?

John Walpole (K5ZY)

  • Thankful for all you do, N5ZKF!
  • Use Anderson PowerPoles for everything
    • Power supplies, portable solar panels, Batteries, etc.
    • Prefer to solder rather than just crimping
    • Put ACF-50 protectant/lubricant on ones that go outside

Dick Zimmer (W5DZ)

  • I use a lot of PowerPoles, too: mainly 30 A, some 45 A
  • Astron 30 A power supply to power distribution strip
    • 8 outlets, all fused
  • Good idea to solder, but if you crimp, make sure they’re not loose
    • Actually broke a pair of crimpers once

Rich Rychetsky (KI5QNR)

  • Recently upgraded to ICOM IC-7300
  • Have 30 A power supply
  • Use PowerPoles to switch between power supply and battery
    • Thanks Matthew Barry (KG5LYE) and Lorna Flansburg (KI5FIZ)
    • From workshop at Radio in the Park

Matthew Barry (KG5LYE)

  • Also a fan of Anderson PowerPoles
  • I’m taking names for Bryan Amateur Radio Club nametags
    • Monograms & More
    • taking point to give Lorna Flansburg (KI5FIZ) a break
    • Let me know if you’re interested

Joe Napoli (KG5SDF)

  • What’s the cost of the nametag?
  • KG5LYE: probably depends on the number of people interested
    • will get a list of interested parties, get a quote, and then get back to y’all

Phil Gates (N5ZKF)

  • PowerPoles seem to be the unanimous favorite
    • I have a 16 port distributor
    • Even made a “Pole-arity” checker
  • If you have a suggestion for a future discussion question, please let me know: n5zkf@arrl.net
