  • No quorum today
    • no “official” business
    • But we can still pretend
  • Thanks to American Legion Post 159 Members who are hosting today
  • Bryan 150 Special Event last weekend
    • Hosted by Bravos Valley Farmer’s Market
      • lots of neat produce and products
      • invited us back, which we should do sometime
        • maybe quarterly
    • about 10 members came out to help
    • Looked a lot like Field Day
    • Made only 7 HFcontacts, most of which were other special event stations
    • met a lot of folks on the sidewalk
  • It’d be nice to have more special event stations
    • e.g., Camp Hearne
    • maybe do something in conjunction with W5AC
  • W4RDP: We’ve been invited to 4th of July get-together
    • Heritage Park
    • City puts on a kid’s parade to publicize local non-profits
  • KI5FIZ: Club anniversary in September
  • Committees
    • Social Media and Web
    • Field Day
    • By-Laws Revision

  • Ideas for after-meeting presentations
    • Running short on topics
  • January meeting will be at C&J’s
    • (no presentation there)
  • Field Day stuff
    • please help out with committee
    • might be harder to get raffle prizes this year due to supply-chain issues

Treasurer Lorna Flansburg (KI5FIZ)

  • 71 members
  • Still have 4 kits available to build: $20 if you would like one

  • October starting balance $6,888.28
  • Total income: $407.00
    • $320 for Timer build kits
    • $75 from membership dues
    • $12 in donations
  • Funds availablue: $7,295.28
  • Disbursements: $233 (parts for timer kit)
  • October ending balance: $7,062.28

Branding, Recognition, and Marketing

  • Banner printing: $128 from Copy Corner
    • Logo is on file (so we can get more swag in the future)

Christmas is Coming

  • Remember to set BARC as your charity when you shop at Amazon Smile for Christmas presents
  • We’ve made about $40 already

Secretary Matthew Barry (KG5LYE)

  • Minutes will be sent out as usual
  • Ideas for Fox Hunt
    • good idea for club build (antenna receiver and maybe transmitter)
    • coordinate with W5AC; they have foxes
    • maybe hide at “booth of the week” at farmer’s market or at obscure historical sites downtown
    • continued social event after January meeting at C&J
  • By-Laws revisions
    • remote attendance (maybe see what W5AC is doing)
    • flexible dues schedule
    • student membership not reflected
    • lifetime membership?
    • fix typos and grammer
    • maybe evaluate quorum requirements
      • add “non-voting” member tier
      • meeting attendance requirements for voting membership
    • Don Hutchcraft (KE5ADX) is interested in joining

Community Involvement

  • How can club provide communications for community events?
    • used to do, e.g., Christmas Parade
    • N5ZKF: most people use commercial radio/comms
    • N5SBN: MS150 Bike ride and other bike rides
      • N5ZKF: maybe volunteer as a club
  • KE5ADX: CERT class?

Officer Elections

Mike Wisby (KA5HIA)

  • All officers would be willing to continue serving another year if necessary
  • But we would be easily deposed if anyone is willing
  • Any nominations? (crickets)
  • New members show their gratitude

Amateur Radio Organization Landscape

  • Clubs
    • W5AC – student organization
    • W5BCS – run-of-the-mill club
    • N5BRZ ARES – emergency communications
    • District 13 RACES – emergency communications
    • SKYWARN – typically handled by meteorology students at A&M (W5AC)
      • severe weather nets led by WG1GEM
  • 648 amateur radio operators in the Brazos Valley area
