VE Test Session

  • 15:00 (but we’re flexible)
  • Everyone who passes test will get a raffle ticket
  • One lucky person will win Baofeng handy-talkie

Help needed

  • set-up Saturday 08:30–12:00
    • safety orientation
      • bring hard hat and safety glasses for tower/antenna work
      • drink plenty of water!
  • overnight to make contacts and guard equipment
    • shadow someone to learn
    • make sure you know how to use radios
  • tear-down Sunday 13:00

Operations

  • Primarily HF
  • monitoring W5BCS repeater (146.680 MHz)
  • monitoring KD5DLW repeater (445.450 MHz)

  • read through ARRL rules
  • know what info needs to be exchanged in order to log a contact
    • Practice phonetics
  • multipliers (more points!):
    • RTTY, CW, QRP
    • Alternate power: solar, wind, etc.

  • Computers for logging
    • Sly has copies of N3FJP logging software
    • Skim through manual or ask for help so you know how to use it!
