    • will also try to bring ice; but will probably need more

  • Contest operation: Sat 13:00 to Sun 13:00
    • we will be operating 2A (two simultaneous radios operating)

    • need confirmation from new leadership
    • Bill Preston (KZ3G): will get in touch
  • Overnight operations
    • attempted to have a sign-up sheet in the past
    • don’t have to sign up, just help out
    • Bill Preston (KZ3G): some members from W5AC have volunteered to do that
  • Ron Hambric (N5SBN): Winlink and SSTV
  • VE Test coordinated by Gerald Golub (W5VUI)
  • Mike Wisby (KA5HIA) is safety officer
    • gloves, hard hat, and safety glasses when setting up towers
    • don’t get a lead in the eye
    • keep cool and hydrated
    • enclosed, air-conditioned trailer to get out of heat
    • be careful with gasoline and generators
    • Ron Hambric (N5SBN): if you see something that you think might be unsafe, bring it to someone’s attention!

Ron Hambric (N5SBN)

  • ARES meeting change for June:
    • first Monday: 2022-06-06 18:30
  • D-STAR nets on 2nd and 4th Tuesday after W5BCS net
  • trying to put together a list of individuals who have digital (D-STAR, DMR, Fusion, “Hot spot thumb drive”) capabilities
    • sent around a “sign-up sheet”
  • Robertson County putting together an ARES club
    • Jim Hanks Jr. (W5CYN) is coordinator
    • Note: don’t have to live in county(-ies) for which you want to be a member.
    • Note: can also be member of multiple counties
  • RACES is an international organization run by FCC
    • can’t self-activate; called on by local judges
    • vs. ARES, which can self-activate, and has done so for emergencies and local events
  • All hospitals have amateur radios
  • Cell phones are not as reliable as most people think
    • Exercise your privileges;

Mike Wisby (KA5HIA)

  • ARES district coordinator for 7 local counties
  • Winlink is primary communication
  • Dick Zimmer (W5DZ) is RACES district radio officer
    • assist county judge with emergency communication to Austin
  • new warehouse at RELLIS (1 of 6 in state)

Don Hutchcraft (KE5ADX)

  • American Legion Post 159 is meeting 2022-06-06 to discuss budget
  • Need to find places to spend Veteran Assistance money
