Field Day

  • Points tabulated so far: 1526
    • special thanks to CW operators! (each contact counts double)
    • has not been turned in yet; still want to audit one more time
    • does not include donated contact points
    • compared to last year: 3,030
      • this included a fair number of donated contacts
  • Any feedback on what did or did not go well?
    • please let us know!

  • VE Test session
    • 4 new licensees
    • 1 upgrade to General
    • 1 upgrade to Extra
  • Venue should be available to us next year
  • Field Day is a fundraiser for the club
    • This year, we netted just over $1,000 for the club

Other Business

Winter Field Day

  • Not an ARRL event, but popular nonetheless
  • Similar to ARRL Field Day
  • Began in 2007
    • sponsored by the Society for the Preservation of Amateur Radio (SPAR)
    • Last weekend of January (2023-01-28/29 next year)
    • 19:00 UTC to 19:00 UTC
    • not necessary to operate for 24 hours; much more laid-back
  • 3 entry categories: indoor, outdoor, home
  • Bonus points are a little different:
    • 500 points if radio equipment is not on the power grid
    • 500 points if not home
    • 500 points for satellite (one-time only)
  • Possible venues:
    • could do it here at the American Legions
    • Wellborn Community Center
  • Good general interest!
    • weather alone is a nice motivation!

New Antenna Needed

  • motion by Ken Reeves (KE5FIV) to budget not to exceed $200 for the purchase of a trapped diploe antenna
    • seconded by Joe Napoli (KG5SDF)
    • motion passes

Antenna Trailer

Maintenance

  • trailer needs outriggers for stabilization
  • needs to be painted
  • might need new tires (if 10 years old or older)
  • club should probably be financially responsible
  • may be able to solicit for donation of materials
  • have mechanical engineer take a look at it and sign off?
  • put a recognition of those who originally built it

Ownership

  • Paul Bilke (KF5WGJ) is trustee (registered to his name)
    • should probably be transferred to club
    • covered under club insurance
  • will still need someone to store/host it
    • KF5WGJ can still serve in this capacity
    • Ralph Cobb (W5RYC) has also offered to store it if need be
  • motion by Brad Snyder (KG5SDE) to transfer posession of trailer to the club
    • seconded by Lorna Flansburg (KI5FIZ)

Antenna Trailer Committee

  • Volunteer members:

  • Tasks:
    • fill out the paperwork and file at tax office
    • assess condition of trailer
    • get list of suggested maintenance items
    • consult with insurance

Honorary Memberships

The club by-laws include an “honorary membership” status:

This grade of membership shall require the two-thirds vote of the membership.
Such membership shall not pay dues or fees, and shall be entitled to hold
office and vote.

We don’t have a process for nominating or carrying out the approval.
