Field Day Preparations

  • Solicit donations from places like Academy, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club
    • Should be easier since we’re now a 501(c)(3)
  • $20 map with radio data would make a great prize

Budget Discussions

  • Current Balance: $4482.64
  • Antenna Upgrade: $1977.62
  • Park deposit: $200 (refundable after field day)
  • Liability Insurance: $200
  • Field day (2018-06-23 through 2018-06-24), projected: +$1400 -$800 (+$600 net)

Repeater Upgrade

  • Open Board Meeting after club meeting to discuss (see below)

KD5DLW Repeater Update

W5DZ

  • Should start moving antennas next week
  • Our antenna will be installed with the others
    • Projected cost will very likely be lower than originally anticipated
  • Yaesu Repeater Upgrade Promo
    • Currently running 20W effective
    • Repeater is good for 50W, but could burn it up if used too much
    • Amplifier is $1000
    • Upgraded repeater can do 50W 100% duty cycle

Board Meeting: Repeater upgrade

  • Upgrade offer goes until end of June

  • 3 options:

    1. Buy outright
    2. Donations from Club members
    3. Wait until June

Discussion

  • IRS doesn’t like “earmarked deductions”
    • Tax-deductible donations cannot be earmarked for a specific purpose
    • Club can state intentions, but members can’t specify what the money is to be used for

Requirements

  • Displays/Controls mounted where I can see them
  • Microphones easy to reach
  • Equipment secured
  • Able to hear

Safety Problems:

  • Nothing in the way of Airbags!
  • Don’t obstruct view of road
  • Securely mount everything!
  • Be careful with car electronics
  • Do some research: radio installation can void warranty in some vehicles
